Cogent has successfully designed and deployed plant-wide electrical, automation and controls for the Lavington Pellet Limited Partnership’s new wood pellet facility in Lavington, British Columbia. The plant is a $47 million investment in partnership with Tolko Industries and Pinnacle Renewable Energy and has been fully operational since October 2015.
In designing the plant, Tolko and Pinnacle were focused on demonstrating a new standard of environmental stewardship with their pellet production. As such, the plant is designed to utilize low temperature belt drying and Cyclofilter technology which showcases state-of-the-art emissions control technology at a scale not previously seen in the Canadian wood pellet industry.
As a longstanding partner of the client and a recognized technology leader in the wood pellet industry, Cogent was brought onto the project to help establish initial plant standards and provide system design and integration services for the entire plant. Cogent worked closely with the client and all stakeholders to fully execute on the project requirements and adopt new technologies to deliver Pinnacle’s most state-of-the-art facility to date. Leveraging Cogent’s technical expertise, the plant is now equipped with a fully integrated plant IT network, wireless data technologies and highly intuitive operator interfaces. Additionally, Cogent provided on-site support to help the plant achieve a quick ramp-up to full production and smooth transition to operation.
